Sunday night and Monday I got to babysit Kaden and Brylie for about 24 hours while their momma was out of town. They live about 15 miles from where our new Kansas City Temple is being built. So after school Monday, we jumped into the car and went over to check out it's progress and see what we could see.
As we drove south on 435 there was a point when the temple popped into view. I pointed it out to the girls, who were so excited! As we got closer, and the temple got bigger, they got quieter and a real feeling of peace and reverence came into the car (these are very talkative girls). Kaden exclaimed..."It's just so beautiful!" You need to realize that the temple now drowns out another predominant item on the skyline...the roller coasters at Worlds of Fun. Interesting....the temple replaces roller coasters...this is so true, spiritually!
As it turns out, that very day the east spire had been put in place! This makes the temple look so beautiful and so different than it has been looking. The whole temple area is just a beehive of machines and workers and cranes and trucks. We could see workmen up on top of the temple, and one man in a 'cherry picker' doing something to the front way up high. As we drove around the temple (there are so many visitors that they built and paved the road all the way around it) we stopped periodically and got out and took some photos.
At one point, there was a 18-wheeler with a flat bed trailer parked nearby that had some large granite panels that match the exterior of the temple. The temple is enclosed now, and just lacks the west spire, so i don't know what those panels are for, but they were just sitting there, so we went up and touched them! It was so thrilling to touch part of the new temple! The girls were so excited too!
According to my favorite temple blog (kcldstemple.blogspot.com) the Angel Moroni is on site at the temple, and i was so tempted to stay the night at Heather's house and spend all day watching in case they placed him on top the temple while i was there. But, the world calls, and i have too much earthly junk to do. Seems a shame. Oh, and it's supposed to rain.......
I got my temple recommend renewed Sunday, and my bishop pointed out that this recommend will be the one i will use to enter the new temple when it is complete. This is just thrilling. What seemed like an impossibility 2 years ago is now just a matter of patience.
"I love to see the temple, I'll go inside one day, I'll covenant with my Father, I'll promise to obey.
For the temple is a holy place where we are sealed together. As a child of God, I've learned this truth: A family is forever." (I love to see the temple, Children's Hymbook pg 95, 2nd verse)
Temple enclosed; waiting for west spire.
K & B touching granite panels.
Some stained glass windows are being put in place on the south side.

So exciting! I'm dying that I can't be there to see all these milestones. And it really is so beautiful isn't it. I have a feeling I will be completely overcome when I finally see it. I am coming out there next weekend so I hope for some reason, that they wait until then to put on Moroni.
As of 3:00 today...it's still in the box. :)
Love your post!
